Foundations for your SelectHaus cabin

To build your SelectHaus cabin, you must have a level and stable base available to build on. This requires foundations of some sort to be built. The type of foundations required for your site depends on a number of a factors, including:

  • what kind soil do you have?

  • or are you building on a slope?

  • or are you adding a deck, or steps?

  • Perhaps you already have a concrete slab or pavers on which to build?

  • Do you plan to move your cabin in the future?

If you live in a high rainfall area, it is best if your cabin is mounted a little above ground level to prevent run-off entering or water ingress from rain splash.

Timber sub-frame and foundation kit

Select Haus can also supply you with a sturdy sub-frame and foundation kit for your cabin!

This is a chemically treated timber sub-frame base, resistant to termite infestation and rot. The sub-frame is supplied in a size surplus to the size of your cabin, so that you can choose to either trim it to the exact size of the cabin or use the excess as a base for adding a deck to your cabin, if you like. The complete sub-frame can be assembled in just a few hours.

Also supplied are patented ingenious Logfoot foundation bases. These can be used as a foundation where you have a total slope of less than 20cm under your cabin. These patented feet can be height adjusted to compensate for differing ground heights under the sub-frame. So, they can be used to compensate even for undulating ground!

Alternatively, if you like, you can use our sub-frame directly on a solid base, such as a concrete pad, pavers or a compacted gravel base, without the need to use Logfoot bases. If your slope is greater than 20cm, posts of appropriate length can be fixed to the sub-frame and these most likely need to be concreted into the ground to create a solid footing.

A bolted or welded steel sub-frame is another option; especially should you wish to move the cabin to a different location at some point in the future. This frame can be either mounted on concrete blocks (this also allows the possibility of moving in the future) or mounting on wooden or steel piles concreted into the ground.
